Meet Ellen Kutchmanich of Price Insurance Agency in Carbondale, PA
How long have you been with your firm and what’s your role there?
My parents bought the agency from my uncle in 1980 when I was 2. I used to have a desk in our family home when I was little, and I used to tell my dad I would be an insurance agent like him. I told him that I would get another job, but I would always also be working with him.
I started working at the agency doing filing at 15 years old. Today I do a little bit of everything. I do some personal lines but my focus is on commercial lines prospects that come in, i.e. contractors and auto repair garages. I also do the accounting and everything that goes along with it. I work with my husband and my son, and I still work alongside my dad as I predicted I would – and I love it! We have a great family-owned agency!
If you have a niche market that you’re involved with, how did you get started in that niche?
We do a lot of personal lines for home and auto. On the commercial side, we have a lot of auto repair garages. There are a lot of them in the area and so we decided to focus on them.
What is your favorite part about working in the insurance industry?
I enjoy interacting with customers and employees and underwriters, and even the claims representatives! 😊
What is your proudest moment in serving a client?
When the insured or prospective insured “gets it”. When he/she understands what having adequate coverage means and they want to have adequate coverage in order to be safe. If I have made them understand that this is for their protection and they want the coverages I am recommending, that is when I feel I have done my job.
How would you describe your productivity before and after using eForms Wizard?
eForms Wizard makes my job more efficient for myself, for the underwriter, and for the customer. It simplifies the application process into an easier format.
What is something most people don’t know about you – maybe a unique hobby or interest?
I am good at basketball which is my favorite sport. I was good at it in school even though I am only 5 foot 2. I was a guard!
What does an ideal weekend look like?
An ideal weekend would look like going out to dinner with my husband and kids, going for a hike with my husband and the dog, or watching a movie at home with my husband and reading a book!
Who’s your favorite Super Hero, and why?
Spiderman because he does good work but leaves his mark in a humble way. I like that!
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
Ireland – it’s a beautiful country! Also, I am 100% Irish so it was even more meaningful to me.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
I don’t like to cook. I wish I did but I don’t like handling raw meat. Fortunately, my husband does most of the cooking and I clean up!
